No place like Home

Saturday we met up with some friends for lunch. We had a great time hanging out, eating local food, and of course drinking tea.

Saturday night we went back to my favorite restaurant, then walked through the old campus that I used to live at. No one lives in the dorms that I was in anymore.  They are doing some remodeling on the building so i snuck in to take some pics. Honestly, any other place and i'm sure the building would be condemned.

This was my old classroom. There are usually desks and chairs. They repainted and cleaned it up pretty good. It used to have cat poop in it all the time.

In the winter, I would wear 4 layers to class and bring a blanket. It was that cold.

Here's my old room. They've repainted, torn out the carpet, and fixed the ceiling. My ceiling used to leak constantly on my bed. There was a lot of water damage.

I really wish I could find a 'before' pic, but can't find one anywhere. Just for a visual, my bed was on the left, I had a small loveseat on the right, and then a small dresser and bedside table.

This was my old kitchen. Again, they've put in tile and made it look much nicer.

I used to have one gas burner on the far corner, a fridge, and a bookcase where I kept all my food.

This is the bathroom. I WISH you could see what the before was like. The toilet, walls, and floor are all new. My toilet before used to leak from the bottom. And notice at the top is the shower head. I would take everything out each time I took a shower (which really wasn't all that often ha!). But then I would always have to roll my pants up when I went the bathroom because the floor was always wet.

I know you're probably thinking this post is about my old dorm memories. It's not.

We flew back home today to our city. While Daniel and I LOVE being in the mountains, and truly believe we will live there at some point, we both felt so ready to be in our home. It's strange. We both love and miss the mountains, and could easily make it home if we lived there. But we've settled in here. We've created our home here.

When we both walked in the door today we both said that we've never really felt so at home before. We love it here. Even though it's hot and humid, we know this as home. It's strange that we haven't been here quite 3 months yet, and barely 2 months in our house. But it feels so right. And I can't wait to sleep in my own bed tonight.

There really is no place like home.

Home Sweet Home

I have had so many people ask for pics of our new place in East Asia......here ya go!!

This is the entry way. Our front door is on the left. I LOVE that it's purple! The white cabinets on the right are for your shoes. We always take our shoes off as soon as we walk in. The other door is a room our landlord won't give us the key to. I'm kind of bitter about it and keep trying to pick the lock.

I love the life size mirror too!

Our apartment is furnished, so the couches, tables, chairs, and bed frames came with it. This is our living room. We have HUGE windows in all the rooms, and again, i love it. This is to the left of the entry way.

I bought these lamps, and I L-O-V-E them!! They totally make the room! I also bought the pillows and the rug was ours from before. The big thing in the corner is the AC/Heat unit. The red chair in the corner is usually in the guest room, but we're having people over tomorrow so need it in the living room.

Another view.

Don't be jealous of our TV. It has sound, but no picture. Dining room on the right, hall to the bedrooms on the left.

Dining room-kitchen on the right. We have these weird french/accordion doors leading to the kitchen.

Close up view.

Here's our kitchen! This is NOT a normal sized kitchen for here. Almost all of them are the size of half a shoe box. We totally lucked out on this!

Daniel built these shelves for me.....it makes it so much easier and frees up a lot of counter space for me. We cook in this large toaster oven instead of a stove.

Opposite view. The door leads to our enclosed patio that has our washer and dryer.

Washer and dryer. Dryers are a huge luxury here. (the vent leads to an outside window) When we went and bought ours the store only had one kind. So we bought that one :) Daniel also built me this frame to free up more space too. He's handy.

Here's the hall between our living room and dining room. First room on the left is our guest room. The door opposite is the bathroom. Door straight ahead is our room, and the one next to ours is the office.

Guest bathroom. We usually keep this door closed. The drains smell pretty bad here and this room is the worst.

Here's our guest room! The red chair is usually in the corner. i love this room!

You can't see it, but each room has an amazing deep window seat. I want to put cushions and pillows on these eventually. And most of our walls are bare. We have pictures and small things to put up, but the walls are SO big, it seems weird to put something small on them. Thoughts??

Here's the office. It's pretty much Daniel's man-cave. I try not to go in here very much. It may never be this clean again, ha!

Our room!!!

We had our bedding made. Our bed is between a queen and a king, and to find anything brown here is like finding a needle in a haystack. So I bought brown king sheets and had someone make a duvet cover for me. Then we had a duvet/filling made to go inside.

The white cabinets are the closets.  We bought the dresser and mirror.

Our amazing bathroom that is also very uncommon here. again...love.

Here's a close up of our bedside tables. They're so Asian, i love them!

Thanks for seeing our home! Come visit anytime!!

Home sweet Home

Welcome!!

I've been wanting to do this post for a while now. My family lives in Texas and i wanted to show them what our home looks like. I also dedicate this post to my sister, Sarah, who has been nagging me about this for a while :)

Come on in:

Below: i stole (i mean 'borrowed') the blue chair from my parents....

Below: Daniel and I bought this rug together the day after we got engaged...we call it our marriage rug :)

Below: We just got the painting on the right from Caroline for our wedding/Christmas present. We love the colors!! We're in the process of hanging it :) (washer and dryer on right)

Below: Caroline also painted the red flowers, we have gotten SO many compliments on this painting!

Below: closet on left (opposite bookcase) holds our bikes, vacuum and shoes.

The guest room- the huge sword is the wedding present I gave to Daniel when we were married this past November. I gave it to him to represent that he is the protector and fighter for our family.

We also use the guest room for all the extra stuff that hasn't found it's home yet...

Below: the guest bathroom

Below: our wedding cake topper and vases from Bangkok that Daniel gave to me for Valentine's  last year

Below: this is our bedroom...off the side of the dining room
